salt lake city | historic remodel
This major remodel and addition in Salt Lake City’s Avenues neighborhood transformed an existing home into a fully reimagined custom residence. During demolition, CK Builders discovered multiple previous additions along with signs of historic fire damage. After evaluating options with the homeowner, the decision was made to remove all prior construction and preserve only three original brick exterior walls to maintain the home’s footprint and setbacks.
From there, the home was rebuilt from the core out—removing structural elements down to the framing, basement floors, plumbing, HVAC, and electrical systems before beginning a complete reconstruction. Working alongside Heather McKell of McKell Designs, the new layout was designed to blend indoor and outdoor living, incorporate Feng Shui principles, and reflect personalized details throughout the home.
A new upper-level primary suite anchors the design, featuring a private sitting area with fireplace, balcony, dedicated workspace, custom bathroom, oversized walk-in closet, and a private wellness wing with laundry, clothes steamer and folding station, sauna, and storage.
The main level offers an open-concept layout with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, an office, dining space, sitting area, breakfast nook, and a professional-grade kitchen. The basement includes a large entertainment area, kitchenette, full bathroom, laundry/storage space, and three additional bedrooms.
The exterior preserves the original brick façade while upgrading the home with durable, modern materials including fiber cement siding, GAF solar shingles and standing seam roofing, triple-pane windows, a custom oak front door, and a Trex deck with built-in Bullfrog spa.
