Wood Shake

Today’s wood shingles are typically machine cut to feature cleaner edges and a smoother surface. These are less expensive than hand cut shingles from blocks of wood that offer thicker materials and a more rustic appearance.

Wood shakes can be treated to offer a class A fire rating, last five to ten years longer than asphalt products, and are typically made from salvaged trees. Wood is recyclable and can enhance Tudor, Victorian, Cabin, Cottage, and Cape Cod style homes.

Untreated wood shakes are typically less expensive in cost, offer a Class C fire rating, and should not be installed in areas prone to wildfire activity. Wood shakes take some knowledge to install and are prone to algae or moss growth in wet climates. While wood is quite durable, repairs of wood shakes can be costly if required.

CK Builders knows the ins and outs of roofing materials and products. We can help determine if wood shake is the right product for your home or cabin.
