Clay/Spanish Tile
Clay or Spanish roofing tiles are a staple among building products in the Southern United States. Typically made from local materials, clay tiles can offer many great benefits including durability, longevity, low maintenance and curb appeal. Tiles come in a multitude of shapes, profiles, and colors giving you the ability to find just the right style and color to complement your home.
Clay tiles are heavy at an average of 6-18 lbs per square foot and can require extra structural support to carry the load. They are fire resistant and long lasting but do not fare well in freeze/thaw conditions. Clay tiles can come with an expensive up-front cost ($11-$18 per sq.ft.) but if installed properly can stand the test of time. Clay tiles look fantastic but cannot be walked on easily which could make repairs somewhat tricky.
